Knode Limited ("Knode", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and the Knode platform, how we use it, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect
When you use our website
- Map my water: the email address and phone number you give us, how you’d like us to contact you, your notes, the points you place on the map (their locations, names and what you want to monitor), any address you search for, and the estimate you see.
- Contact form: your name, phone number or email, and your message.
- Technical information: like most websites, our hosting provider records basic information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, to run and secure the site.
When you use the Knode platform
- Account details: names, email addresses and phone numbers of users, and their roles in your organisation.
- Alert settings: who receives alerts and how (SMS, email or in the app).
- Equipment and Data: readings from your Equipment (such as tank levels, flow and pump activity), and the locations of your monitoring points.
- Usage information: how the platform is used, such as log-ins and error reports, to keep it working and improve it.
- Billing details: information needed to invoice and take payment.
We collect personal information directly from you, or from people in your organisation who set up users and alerts.
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and prepare a Quote;
- contact you in the way you’ve asked us to;
- supply, set up and support your Equipment and the Knode platform;
- send alerts and notifications you’ve set up;
- invoice you and manage your account;
- keep our website and platform secure and working, and improve them; and
- tell you about our products and services (you can opt out at any time).
We only use personal information for these purposes, for directly related purposes, or where the law allows.
Equipment readings belong to you. Our Terms of sale explain how we may use aggregated Data to improve our services.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell personal information. We use trusted third-party service providers to help run our business, for example to host our website, database and platform, send emails and SMS alerts, provide maps and address search, receive readings from your Equipment, and process payments. We share personal information with them only as needed for them to provide those services, and they are required to protect it.
We may also disclose personal information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Knode, our customers or others.
Storing information overseas
Some of our service providers store or process information outside New Zealand. When we use overseas providers, we take reasonable steps to make sure they protect personal information in a way that, overall, provides comparable safeguards to those in the Privacy Act 2020.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections, access controls, and limiting access to people who need it. No system is completely secure, so please tell us straight away at info@knode.co.nz if you think your account or information has been compromised.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, including to follow up enquiries and keep business records, or as required by law (for example, tax and accounting records). You can ask us to delete your information at any time, and we will unless we need to keep it for a lawful reason.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our website, such as which pages are visited and whether the Map my water tool is used, so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and browser, and the pages you visit. It does not give us your name or contact details. You can opt out by using Google’s opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
We don’t use advertising cookies. Your browser may also store small amounts of information locally to make the site work, for example to remember the points you’ve placed on the Map my water map during your visit. Maps and address search are provided by Mapbox, which receives the information needed to show maps and search results. Our website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the fonts load.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. Email info@knode.co.nz. We’ll respond within 20 working days, as the Privacy Act requires. We may need to confirm your identity first.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
